Biography
Andy Davis is a graduate student mentored by Tippi Mackenzie in UCSF's Biomedical Sciences program. He was born and raised in the South Bay of Los Angeles, and earned his B.Sc. while attending the University of Southern California. As an undergraduate, he worked in the lab of Dr. Rayudu Gopalakrishna studying the neuroprotective effects of laminin-1. Andy continued on at USC to earn his M.Sc. and joined the lab of Dr. Wange Lu where he researched mechanisms of chemoresistance in glioblastoma multiforme. Andy then spent several years working on therapies for HIV and solid-tumor cancers at a biotech startup in Los Angeles, before returning to academia at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. There, in Dr. Ronald Hoffman's lab, he studied myeloproliferative neoplasms and potential therapies for treating them. Andy is currently interested in hematopoietic stem cell biology, and the development of gene therapies that can be administered in vivo or in utero.
